Leading your group

What a group leader can do — edit group details, approve members, post to the feed, take attendance, and add events — and where to find each one.

If you lead a group — a Bible study, a ministry team, a class — you get a set of tools scoped to that group. You don't need admin access to the church's site or settings to use any of them; they're all inside the group itself.

Open Groups and tap into your group to get started.

Edit your group's details

Tap Group details at the top of the group page. You can change:

  • Name, tagline, and description
  • Image — the photo shown on the group's card and page
  • Meeting times — day, time, and frequency (a group can meet more than once a week)
  • Location
  • Join message — the note shown to someone requesting to join
  • Contact info — whether your email or contact form shows on the group's page

Fields that decide whether the group is public, featured on the homepage, or unpublished stay with an admin — those affect the church's website as a whole, not just your group.

Approve join requests and manage members

The Members tab is where people land after they request to join. Approve or decline each request — the person who actually knows whether someone belongs in the group should be the one deciding, which is why this is yours to run rather than the church office's.

From the same tab you can also remove someone from the group if needed.

Post and pin in the feed

Use the Feed tab to post announcements to your group. Pin anything that should stay at the top — a schedule change, a sign-up link — so it doesn't get buried under regular posts.

Take attendance

The Attendance tab lets you start a session and tap off who showed up — usually well under a minute at the end of a meeting. If someone misses enough sessions in a row, they'll surface for follow-up so you know who's quietly stopped coming.

Add group events

From the Events tab, add an event tied to your group — a special meeting, a social, a retreat. It shows up on the group's page and, if published, on your church's calendar.

Edit your group's web page

If your group has its own page (tap Edit page to check), you can edit it in the page builder the same way an admin edits any other page — swap the hero image, reorder sections, update the text.

One thing worth knowing: whether that page is actually what visitors see depends on a church-wide setting. Most churches show group details in a quick pop-up when someone clicks a group on the homepage — in that mode, your page builder edits aren't the thing visitors see. If your church has switched to the "full page" display mode instead, your group's own URL renders the page you built. Ask your admin which mode your church uses if you're not sure.
