Publish your first sermon

Upload audio or video and post your first sermon to your church website.

Sermons are the lifeblood of most church websites. They're how members revisit a powerful message, how out-of-town family stays connected, and how new visitors get a sense of your pulpit before they ever walk in. Publishing your first one takes about five minutes.

What you'll need

  • A sermon recording — audio (.mp3 preferred) or video (.mp4 / a YouTube link).
  • The title and a short summary — one or two sentences.
  • A Scripture reference — e.g. "Romans 8:28–39."
  • The preacher's name — defaults to the senior pastor if you set that earlier.
  • A series name (optional) — if this sermon is part of a multi-week series.

How to publish

  1. Go to New sermon.
  2. Fill in Title, Preacher, Scripture, Summary.
  3. Pick a Publish date — usually the Sunday the sermon was preached.
  4. Media section:
    • Audio: upload an MP3 directly, or paste a link from your podcast host.
    • Video: paste a YouTube or Vimeo URL.
    • You can include both audio and video on the same sermon — visitors see one player with a toggle.
  5. Click Save.

Publish state — draft vs. scheduled vs. published

Top-right of the sermon form is a Publish State selector with three options:

  • Draft — only you can see it. Use this while you're still editing.
  • Scheduled — picks a future date and time. The sermon appears on the public site automatically when that moment arrives.
  • Published — live now.

For your first sermon, just pick Published and click Save.

Where the sermon shows up

  • On your church's public site under /messages (or whatever you've named the section).
  • In the Messages section on your home page (if that block is enabled).
  • In the member app, if you're on the App plan — members get a "new sermon" notification.
  • In the podcast RSS feed at /{your-slug}.easychurchapp.com/feed/podcast — submit this once to Apple Podcasts / Spotify and every future sermon shows up automatically.

File size and length

There's no hard limit on file size for uploaded audio, but anything over ~150MB takes a long time to upload from a home connection. If your audio file is huge, export it at a lower bitrate (96kbps is fine for spoken sermons).
